COMANDER has been represented at ECOC 2016 (Dusseldorf, Germany) exhibition via the booth of its partners, where COMANDER brochures were distributed to the exhibition visitors presenting COMANDER’s concept and its activities.


Lumerical Software organized the annual training software workshop. The workshop intended to educate and train active and potential customers. In this 2 day workshop, learn to use Lumerical’s suite of products by working through some application examples of current industrial and academic interest. Attendees obtained a broad range of knowledge on the main product features that can be applied across a wide variety of applications. Users are expected to have a basic familiarity with the products which can be obtained by watching the product introductory webinars and/or using a trial version of the software.

Two workshops on “Fiber-Wireless Network Technologies and Architectures towards 5G and Beyond” were organized successfully by the COMANDER consortium and took place as a special session at The International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON) 2016 ( and 2017 (, in Trento, Italy, 10-14 July 2016 and Girona, Catalonia, Spain, 2-6 July 2017 respectively. The workshops were organized jointly by the Marie -Curie Innovative Training Network “FiWiN5G” ( and provided a forum for discussion of recent developments on Fiber-Wireless Network Technologies, Radio-over-Fiber Transmission, Microwave Photonics, Fronthaul and Access Architectures, Next Generation networking etc. Four COMANDER fellows from AUTH presented the project outcomes.


PhoeniX Software organized the annual training software workshop at their premises in Enschede, the Netherlands between 22nd– 26th February 2016. The workshop intended to educate and train active and potential customers in making chip designs. It covered mask layout, photonic integrated circuit simulations, mode-solving, propagation simulations and process flow visualisation with OptoDesigner 5 and Aspic. In this event and within the frames of COMANDER, two posters about RAU chip design and portability were presented by COMANDER fellows. Four COMANDER secondees attended this event. A similar training was also held at Phoenix Software premises between 16th – 20th February 2015, where a poster about the RAU chip design and design portability was also presented by COMANDER fellows.


COMANDER has issued its 3rd newsletter that provides an update on the project's news and highlights the most important action points that took place during the third year of the project regarding dissemination/outreach activities, technical achievements and new secondments.
