COMANDER's consortium organised a Special Session as part of the 19th International Workshop on Computer Aided Modelling and Design of Communication Links and Networks (CAMAD). The Special Session was a great success and the participants had a great chance to meet and discuss issues revolving around the converged Radio-over-Fiber communications. Some pictures follow.

COMANDER has issued its 2nd newsletter that provides an update on the project's news and highlights the most important action points that took place during the second year of the project regarding dissemination/outreach activities, technical achievements and new secondments. Partner PhoeniX Software organized the annual training software workshop at their premises. The workshop intends to educate and train active and potential customers in making chip designs. It covers mask layout, photonic integrated circuit simulations, mode-solving, propagation simulations and process flow visualisation with OptoDesigner 5 and Aspic. In this year's event and within the frames of COMANDER a poster about RAU chip design and design portability were presented by COMANDER fellows.

DAY OF PHOTONICS is an annual event on October 21st that promotes “photonics” towards the general public. The project COMANDER organized an open day at AUTH premises in order to promote photonic technologies and broadcast the objectives and outcomes of the COMANDER project. The event attended undergraduate and graduate students in computer science and engineering as well as IT researchers who had the opportunity to listen about this emerging key enabling technology that will ultimately have the same impact on society as the electronics industry. COMANDER was also presented as an ongoing project that exploits photonics combined with wireless technology to enhance accessibility to multi-Gb/s communications. Some pictures follow:
