October 2014: Mr. Dimitrios Fitsios, PhD candidate in the field of Optical Communications, has been awarded the very prestigious IEEE Photonics Society Graduate Student Fellowship 2014 (http://www.photonicssociety.org/content/student-fellowships-grants). This fellowship is annually awarded to 10 outstanding graduate students world-wide pursuing graduate education within the Society field of interest. The full-list of the 2014 winners is available here and the awards will be presented at the IEEE Photonics Conference 2014 in San Diego, U.S.A.. It is the first time that a student from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki receives this prestigious award and only the third time for a student from a Greek University.
June 2014: Mr. Sotirios Papaioannou and Ms. Theonitsa Alexoudi, PhD candidates in the field of optical communications supervised by Assistant Prof. Nikos Pleros and Amalia Miliou, respectively, have been selected among the 44 recipients for the Excellence Scholarship awarded by the Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki to PhD students for the year 2014.
June 2014: Mr. Dimitrios Fitsios, PhD candidate in the area of optical communications under the supervision of Assistant Professor Nikos Pleros, received the IKY/Siemens Doctoral Excellence Scholarship for research in the scientific field of “Nanotechnology and Applications”. Only 20 students received this scholarship among all Greek universities for this specific scientific field, while the total number of awarded students among all four scientific sectors was only 73.
